Merlin Legend Call Forwarding 2

We've just recently installed a Merlin Legend system at one of our locations and had the service switched to a T1 from analog trunks feeding an old System 25. We have 40 or so DID's and 1 main number. With the old system we would dial *72 to call forward all calls coming in on the main number to our other site for after hours coverage. We've tried doing that with the new service, but it hasn't worked. Is there a key sequence needed to grab the main line from the operator's console? We've tried dialing 9, then *72 then XXX-XXXX but it'll just come back saying it can't complete the call.

Thanks,
David

You will need to contact your T1 Vendor. It is a Telco Feature.

If you are trying to forward the main console, your best bet would be to use the call forward feature of the Legend.

You would also have to set permissions of the main console for remote forwarding as well.

I also recommend putting a FORWARD button on the phone so you will know when it is forwarded or not.

Once everything is set up, you would simply press the FORWARD button, dial 9, (THE NUMBER TO FORWARD TO) and the POUND (#) Sign.

If this is successful, you will hear a confirmation tone, and the forward button will light.

I'm pretty sure it's setup with out T1 provider, because at one of the other locations, which has a Toshiba system, they can forward the lines fine there. The support guy for the system said they have to hit #2 to grab the main line (BTN I think is what he called it) for it to actually forward just the main line's calls and not the DID numbers too. I thought there was something like this setup at a previous employer that I worked for, but I never got a chance to learn how it was done. If we do decide to just use the Legend's built-in forwarding capability, will that use 2 lines for each call coming in? I can't imagine that running out of channels would be a problem, but I like to try and cover all bases.

Thanks,
David

Yup, it does use the incoming line, and conferences it to the outgoing line.

Is this a PRI by chance?

I honestly can't remember if it was setup as a PRI or as a plain T1. We had quite a few problems getting the phone system to even see the circuit. My guess is that it was setup as a PRI since the ISP actually did the programming on the phone system for the circuit since the support person for the system couldn't remember all the steps to program for a PRI.

"We had quite a few problems getting the phone system to even see the circuit. My guess is that it was setup as a PRI..."

My guess is also that it is a PRI.

So my suggestion of using the LEGEND/MAGIX forwarding still looks like the best plan.

If you are concerned about transmission loss, with a PRI it is usually rather minimal.

I found out why the *72 wasn't working. For some reason the phone system isn't sending the * through to the telco. I set the allow list to allow *72 and *73, and set the operator extension in the allowto list, but it didn't fix the problem. We also cannot use *82 to unblock our outgoing number to call people who won't accept a blocked number. Any ideas?

If this is a PRI, you have no physical lines to forward, so *72 won't work.

Of course, you could check with the service provider to be sure, perhaps they can tell you how.

But I still think you'd be better off using the CALL FORWARD Feature of the Legend.

Are you sure you have a PRI? Because there is NO blocking of the "number-to-send" on PRI as anonymous. Next, you can't Call Forward a Trunk Group in the CO.

If that was the case, you would be forwarding all your DID numbers at the same time!

I think at this point you should post a print of your Legend configuration, that way we can all see what is going on with it and make more informed suggestions.

Do you happen to know what kind of switch the serving CO has?
