Have been working for two weeks now setting up a new Merlin Legend installation ..... boy has this been an experience. Down to two last items to get going and cannot seem to make it happen. THey are call forwarding, to outside number, and outcalling with Merlin Mail. I have remote call forward enabled, LS disconnect enabled, trunk-to-trunk transfer enabled for those extension(not at all sure about that one). We have BIS sets.... one thing that was missing with the docs was a understandable listing of feature codes. Tried #33 or *33 then 9 + phone number.... nothing. On the Merlin mail outcalling ,,,, all is enabled for the extension... leave a msg & I see port 4(we have a four port) on Merlin Mail go "red" but does not seem to ring thru. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Have gleaned a lot of helpful info from this forum in the past two weeks.... hope someone can save me from hari-kari!!!! THANKS!

The Voice Mail ports are toll restricted by default - You will need to set the ARS Rectriction Level for Port 4 to at least 3 to allow it to access an outside line for outcalling.

You are seeing the port go off hook, but it is getting "wave-off" when it dials 9 for outside.

As far as trunk-to-trunk transfer, it sounds like you have it set up correctly: Enable the Stations to have trunk-to-trunk and set the line for reliable disconnect.

I checked the ARS restrict for ext 143, which is the port that port 4 of Merlin Mail was plugged into, and it is set to 0. Made the change & watched the port lights again.... it goes from green to red for a couple of seconds, then back to green .... then it goes to red then hangs there for a couple of minutes before going back to green. I have the number for outcalling set as 9*xxx-xxxx, have also tried 9**xxx-xxxx without any luck either. Am lost......
On the remote call forwarding, I think it comes down to confusion of how to enter the feature on my BIS sets. Really appreciate your answer............

The *33 is a programming code for a button on the set for forward not a feature code. You Could Either program a forward key onto the phone then you would press the FORWARD 9 ###-#### or you could program a FEATURE (*20) the press FEATURE 33 9 ###-####

where would I find a list of these codes? The following manuals came with the Legend system; System Managers Guide, System Programmers Guide, Feature Guide, Merlin Mail planning, Installation & use, & a little Merlin II users guide for 5,10,22,&34 Button Phones. According to the little phone book I would press *89 then the number.... but when I press *8 I get the siren before I even enter the 9? Boy is this confusing! ..... and I do appreciate your reply!

It sounds like all the programming is right for the forward feature. One thing you have to do to make it work is hit the # sign after you enter the number to forward to. The system needs to know that you have completed entering the string of digits.

I've gone back to make sure that I had hit a # after the number to dial ..... still no luck. Getting close to start looking for a BIG hammer!

have you placed the extensions you want to have trunk to trunk into the trunk to trunk?, it's in extensions I believe?

Also check port 4 for "restrictions" under the extendions section in SPM. Once a port is designated as part of an integrated VMS, the port is given no outside dialing access, and is restricted in ARS. It looks like you caught the ARS, but may have missed the other "restriction".

~deanmcc,
Throw away the hammer and call Avaya customer support at 1-800-626-2888 and get your problem fixed now. You've already spent two weeks of your time. Why waste any more?
