I am trying to setup remote access on a Merlin Legend 3.0 system. I have very limited understanding of how these systems work, but from the users manual I am gathering that I need to assign a number that people will dial to access the system remotely. According to the manual this is setup through a trunk line. Because of my limited understanding, I don't know exactly what I need to enter. As far as I can tell from the users guide, LinesTrunks-> RemoteAccss->LinesTrunks gets me to the screen where I assign remote access. When I follow this path, I get a prompt to "enter line/trunk port." Does anyone know what I would enter here? Am I even in the right place to setup remote access? Thanks for your time and any help that you can give me.

Erich

That would be the number you dial to get to voice mail, 770, 777 or whatever it is.

Also, make that:

Menu > System Prog > Exit/Start > Extensions > More > Group Calling > more > Group Type > Group Number

Cool. Yeah, that got me to the correct option but it appears that the VMI is already on. Its not a big deal though, I'm not going to worry about it anymore. The main thing was to access the voice mail remotely, which you helped me with greatly. Thanks so much!

But if it's not turning on message lights, something is BAD WRONG!

If the lights are not coming on for voice mail messages (and they don't blink, they are either on or off), but the lights work otherwise (come on for posted messages), log into the Voice Mail's System Administrator's mailbox, go into the programming menu, to mailboxes, and play a mailbox configuration. What is the "class of service" for a typical mailbox?

It could be that they are set up wrong, and "guest" mailboxes without associated physical phone sets. The VM won't try to set MW lights for those sets.

The "Messaging" you are using is the posted message feature. All it does is show a message on the caller's display when dialing a particular extension. Out to lunch, in a meeting, and so forth. They can be customized with your own messages as well.
