I have a customers Merlin II (cabinet/carrier type)Processor that losses programming after any power recycle. Anybody know what battery I can take with me to repair on site, or do they vary?

It's a 3.6V round, Lithium Battery. You can get them from for $12.95 each. The battery needs to be soldered into the board - so bring a desoldering gun.

IF this was my customer, I would upgrade them to a LEGEND, which has a PCMCIA Back up card.

Battery or no battery, you can restore the translations.

NOT TO MENTION, REMOTE ACCESS PROGRAMMING.

Besides, Legend processors ARE PRETTY CHEAP THESE DAYS!

This is a chain of banks that standardizes most of the branches with one (1) 34 BIS display phone for programming all the branches when they crash. I will present that as an option to the Service Manager.

Points that I would make are:

Pcmcia BACKUP - BULLETPROOF !

MLX Phones are readily available and plentiful in the "AFTER MARKET"

REMOTE PROGRAMMING can be done, saving the cost of a TRIP CHARGE.

Upgrade could be done "on the cheap" by getting 1 408 MLX and only 1 MLX 20.

Or, they could go crazy and upgrade to ALL MLX and even spring for CALLER ID Modules.
