I have a customer with a relic Merlin II. Recently they had several power fluctuations and lost all the programming. I restored what little programming was needed but they have one last problem. They used to be able to transfer calls to outside numbers using their dial tone vendor's access code of #03 through #05. I remember that you would normally have to press the # sign twice for it to register. I thought, though, that I remembered that there was a way to change that in programming. Yes? No? If yes, where do I change it. I have the manual but can not find where to do it.

If the Merlin II is programmed as Behind Switch, the # key sends # to the CO line with a single press, and you put a Speed Dial Access button on the phone to use Merlin feature codes that start with #, pressing the Speed Dial Access instead of # for those codes.

When in PBX mode, you must press the # button twice to send the # to the central office.

That does sound familiar. I have looked in the installation manual but do not see options for Behind Switch or PBX modes. Do both support squared lines system? How would I change from PBX to Behind Switch?
Thanks for your previous reply.

Allow me to share my 2 Cents worth,

Item 1) It lost it's Programming - BAD - Usually due to BAD BACKUP BATTERIES on the PROCESSOR

Item 2) You had to TOTALLY RE-PROGRAM IT. (See Item 1)

Item 3) Another power outage and you'll be doing Item 2 again.

My Solution:

Install a MERLIN LEGEND RELEASE 7 Processor. That takes care of Items 1, 2 and 3 due to the PCMCIA Card Back Up.

It also has a MUCH BETTER Programming interface (WINSPM), including the choice for "Behind Switch".

Just a thought........

Of course, this is based on me doing what you did (spending HOURS Reprogramming a MERLIN II) only to be asked by the Owner, "If we loose power again, will the programming go away?" - Of course the answer was YES! - So he opted for the R7 over the MERLIN II.

This Merlin does not have a backup card, it's a Merlin II, not a Legend. They are getting bids on a new system.

If the customer would like to keep the existing system intact, the processor can be upgraded to a Merlin Legend R7 V14.2. This will add PCMCIA backup card ability to store the system configuration and do away with the need to program from scratch.

I [love2] "FEATURE 00"

I think I said what Dexman said. I know the MERLIN II has no Backup Card, but it DOES HAVE BATTERIES on the Processor that hold the programming during times of Power Outage. But, after 20 years, they seem to fail.
Thus the recommendation for the Legend R7.
