Merlin Classic Won't Ring W/Intercom

I just set up a Merlin Classic 410 system I picked up cheap. I am using it for my home/office as my basic phone system. I have it hooked up with 6 ten-button voice terminals. I have found all the system documentation online and I performed the system reset per the instructions. The only thing that does not seem to work is the ring when calling on intercom. I lift the receiver, hit intercom and my two-digit number for the station I am calling, I hear the two beeps, but the station I am calling won't ring and the speaker is inactive. The light next to the intercom and speaker button lights/flashes on the called unit, but no ring and no speaker. If the called station picks up the receiver, the speaker light goes out and the handset works fine for the intercom call. If the called station hits speaker after now using the handset the speaker kicks in and the calling station can be heard through the speaker. Any ideas why the called station wont ring? Sounds like you have a hybrid phone (7303S) which does not have the voice announce feature. Look at the label on the bottom of the phone. A Merlin 10-button phone will have the code 7303H. Brian Cox

I don't see any numbers on the phone. Shouldn't the called unit at least ring when called on intercom? Thanks for your help.

Merlin phones voice announce on intercom calls by default. To turn voice announce off for a phone put the switch on the left side of the phone to 'P', then touch the intercom button to turn off the green led, and put the switch back to normal. The phone will then ring on intercom calls. Brian Cox

Excellent.....the intercom will ring at the called station if I turn off the default setting as you described. This will work if it is all I have available, but am I to understand that the default setting on this system, if I don't have the voice announce, is just the light flashing on the unit? Perhaps my dinosaur of a phone system's voice announce just isn't working? Again, the ring is great considering the alternative, thank you very much for your help!

To clarify, a Merlin phone will voice announce on intercom by default. If you have a hybrid phone, as I suspect, the phone will only flash on intercom because it is not capable of voice announced calls. Thus the reason for turning off the voice announce feature on these extensions. Brian Cox
