Also if you have e.g. a Miran 1 or 2 card installed in the main cabinet of an Option 11c system and it uses the LSL TTY port, then access to Meridian Mail will be AX 8.

Is there a command to find out if the system is opt11?
I held CTRL + AX and got a smilyface on the terminal hit enter and it just said OVL000.
Guessing this Meridian1 isnt opt11c as it doesnt look like the cabinet on google images.
When looking at the 6 cabinets they are all stacked ontop of each other 4 on the left and 2 on the right I think its the 81/61 or less something like that, one says Meridian Mail the rest say Meridian1, Intelligent, Core/net etc.
looks something like this one minus one cabinet
If it is the system you pictured, or similar, you will need a separate connection, meaning "another modem to call into to get to MerMail". From the generally accepted perspective, they are two separate systems.
Ok, So I found another modem tucked away off to the side of the meridian 1/Mail boxes with 2 blackbox parallel A/B/C/D switches one is labeled Mail and the other is labeled SL1.
I hunted down the number to get to that modem in the M1 directory.
When I try to dial-in I hear the modem going off where its connected so I know, I am good up to that point.
These switch boxes I am not sure of tried switching between the letters on them but dont seem to get a response from the terminal.
Once I am connected to meridian mail (I think) I get a black screen Procomm ready.
Tried pressing the Control A X, but I am guessing that is only when you are trying to connect to mail from the meridian1 system side as it doesnt do anything.
Tried typing stuff into the terminal window ever key stroke makes a sound like an error when you cant type something, tried just pressing return that didnt help either.
Wane47 how did you know that the box should also be set to B is this configuation standardized or something? and what would the A position be for? passing to the second ABCD switch to get to the SL1?
All 5 Parallel cables seem to connect directly to m1 system, how would I switch it over to the M1 side as well as I was using the phone companies link to dial into that side which I would not like to do that as that is their line.
it is the standard configuration in nortel manuals. a is for the mermail terminal and b is for the modem. they ony had 1 console port, it was shared by terminal and modem.
think it's a 81/61 type setup nessman so dont think that option 11C stuff will work on it.
more along the lines wondering how to change the switches shown above in the pictures to use the modem to connect to M1 terminal as the MerMail Terminal has been figured out with the help of Wane47.
You'll need to find the MerMail modem and its number. On the back side of the MerMail shelf are three thick cables with BD-25 serial cable ends. One should go to your terminal switch, and another to the modem. The modem should have its number labeled on the front of it. On the modem, switches 3,5, 8 should be on for correct communications.
When you call into that modem, you'll need to use a VT-100 terminal protocol and when connected, type Ctrl-R to 'refresh' the screen. Use your normal login to access the system. Good luck.
