Not sure whatr forum this belongs in. New customer small 170 room motel has an older Meridian OP11C. I am a MICS boy myself.

They have the older style Meridian sets installed and SL analog sets in the rooms.

It has two large wall mounted clam shell cabinets that have button on the top left and right that you push in together then the cover lowers and can come off.

They have a few issues but overall it looks like it is in good shape. The Meridian Mail system is not being used by the guests but I dialed Ext-200 and it answered just fine.

All the manuals are in the com closet and they have an old dot matrix and old style monochrome screen that I am not sure what is used for.

Any ida what I am looking at? They are considering replacement of this unit but if I could maintain it I would like to see if I could save them money.

They are telling me that they use to have voice mail and wake calling and call accounting etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am sorry the ext. I dialed was 780.

You, sir, are looking at a Nortel Option 11. You would have to get in to programming (via the dumb terminal you saw or laptop). As for passwords, maybe look under the keyboard. Is it reliable? Most likely so. You need to get in and find the s/w level; chances are (as with the MerMail) well out of Nortels support, but it will tell you what you have for sure. You can upgrade and may or may not be worth it. If it does what they need, those are robust platforms. You should post this in the Nortel CS1000 forum as it is a PBX. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. Yes I just finished posting it CS1000. I really would liek to save this customer the money if possible of replacing it at this time. Times are tuff and liek fixing old cars I like working on old system and refurbishing them if possible as long as a reliable source of parts are available so as not to place the customer in a dangerous position when they have technical problems.

I echo. Option 11's were made to stand the test of time practically. They are really great platforms for hotels. If it has S/W 25.40, that was the last system produced for it.

Meridian Mail was replaced by CallPilot, but is essentially the same. Learning the programming construct is easy, but there are a LOT of pages to go through and you will have to learn load commands. I work on ICS and older ones as well, so it's a little different than what you're used to. Nothing that can't be learned, however. I have an old Option 11 I use to play around with; it's actually not too hard.

One of the questions thye asked me was the Meridian Mail able to perform Hospitality features like wake up service and room availibility.

There are/were versions with hospitality options I believe. You may need to hunt around or see what responses you get from the other forum. Lots of knowledgeable folks there...

Thanks I am getting help from the CS1000 forum.
Thank you for your direction!

You will definitely need the load manuals. Options are a completely different beast and program by loads. First you will have to log in and do a LD 22 "ISS" will give the version, release and isssue and any patches. And definitely an error code book. Also if you try and log in 3 times and do not succeed you will be locked out for 45 min. Check what the system was built with to begin with to see what it will do. Good Luck!!
