Meridian Mail down and unresponsive

I'm not sure if I've expereienced just a modem failure or what but my mermail is not connecting after a restart. I've changed the old modem out but when I bring the terminal back up I have a "waiting" notice in the bottom right corner. To be honest, I haven't really had to deal with the mechanics on that system so I can't even remember what the correct startup procedures should be.

well I did the whole shelf.
the terminal shows the basic details and it sitting with
<*> and a flashing cursor

and no voicemail working yet

Just want to say a thanks for all who helped on this one yesterday. It was a no go and I've got no spare parts so Verizon is going to get some money this time around.
