Meridian Mail card or HD may have died AGAIN 1

Having just replaced the (rather expensive) HD in my mermail system a couple of months ago, I fear it may be fried again.

A rather massive power outage last night took out most of this zip code. Power was restored shortly after. My PBX booted up fine and phones are working, however the mermail extension (601 in this case) rolls over to our receptionist when dialed.

Like last time, the green light on the mermail card is slowly blinking off, then on, and trying to access the menu by typing AX at the console, returns nothing. It just sits at the prompt until you hit ctrl ]

My question is, from the console, is there any way to properly shut things down BEFORE I flick the switch to power off the card?

I haven't touched anything so far.
I Do have a current backup tape in the drive, and I seem to recall reading something last time about how mermail won't boot with the tape in?

I can take the tape out and power cycle, I just don't want to flick that switch until I've done all I can to shut down properly.

Advice?

Turns out the 3 slot "cover" card not being seated was the cause of the blinking green light.
Blinking has stopped but the AML is still down/disabled.

perhaps I just need to go to lunch and give it some time to think :)

Well the plot thickens, with a muddy unsavory bitterness.

Now my external number to the main office, as well as the 800 #, are pulling a ring-no-answer since the last time i powered down the mermail card (which for some reason caused another OS restart)

stat on the card those calls go to looks normal, equipped sets are idle.

No idea what's going on here. Console was spitting out "daily routine" stuff for a while, now it's just a constant stream of

every few seconds.

Board was down or something for a while.

Anyway, disc and enlc the mermail card fixed the
problem with incoming calls, no idea why. Maybe coincedence.

Have a vendor tech coming on-site in the morning to suss out the problem, as the guy who dialed in over the phone couldn't get anywhere. (interestingly the only thing he did that i didnt do was disable the card before powering it off, which I didn't know I should do.) in any case if something is fried, I dunno why.

Hopefully next time the power goes out I won't be stuck in traffic on my way back to the office because the stop-lights are all dead, while the APC is drained of it's 10-15 minutes worth of juice.
