I can use some help on this hard drive install for Meridian Mail 13, Option 61, Rel. 21 Tech contract services suggested that the hard drive be replaced due that the backup tape failed once and couple of times voice mail would shutdown for a few minutes. Tech ordered part # NT6P44BA. When he tried to install the refurb hard drive he had to modify the fitting and after 10 minutes of installing, the error message came up;
WARNING: THE RESTORED SYSTEM IS NOT THE SAME - VERSION AS THE INSTALL/DATA TAPE BEING USED.

CREATING REQUIRED VOLUMES
1648 ERROR OPENING FILE: RAM SCCS.DATA RC = 102

This operation has failed with Error Code = 102
Please check your tape and hardware then try again. If the error persists consult the SEER manual to determine the problem and course of action.

We tried (3) different backup tapes from different dates and the same failure message. Tech support is researching but no solution yet. Couple of the old backup tapes backed up with no error message and it still failed. The tech had to reinstall the old hard drive and so far no voice mail interruption but at this point there is no functional backup tapes. Voice mail is critical for sales driven operations and among 340 users.

I appreciate any help in this area.

Why not replace the Tape backup system and then do a backup.

The only times I have had a Backup fail was due to a dirty Backup drive not the HD.

Vmail shutting down for a few min sounds more like a reboot than a bad HD.

Thank you for your response. It appears sofar that the tech did not install the current Meridian Mail with backup as I have version MM13.12.1 and MM13.14. This should explain why all 3 different backup tapes failed. The tape drive has become another area of concern too.

Usually when you get a backup Tape fail, is it the Tape or tape drive and not a HD problem.

Try running the tape cleaner a few times. It seems the dry cleaners work a little better.

Thank you for the tape cleaning tip. We located the dry cleaning tape to use and possible change the hard drive next week. So far the hard drive is running the backup tape without problems, it is one those mysteries again.
