Hello, I'm new here... I'm a desktop/network guy that got handed the reins of a meridian phone system and have had to give myself a crash course in managing it. Not faring too well, I'm afraid.

Anyway, does anyone know what causes the LCD display in the Meridian 2616 phones to only show a bunch of black squares and what I can do to fix it? Usually I just unplug the phone and plug it back in and that fixes it temporarily, but that's not working on one particular phone I've got.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Almost sounds like switched polarity. You have a toner? When you plug it in do you get a green or a red light?

I would check the contrast. Hit program, then scroll with the volume switch.

It just sounds like a bad set. Replace it.

yes, bad set. usually switched polarity looks totally unplugged. If the keys were flashing along with those squares I would suspect an analogue port instead of digital.
did you run local diag? unplug, plug in holding down the Rls key

The phone still works, you just can't see who is calling. The only colored light the phone has is the red "message waiting" light.

I've got an extra phone here, I'll try that first. Thanks for your help!

Running the local diag fixed it. I assume it will only be temporary, but, hey, it's worth a shot.

Thanks again
