After plugging in a 2616 phone the display shows Model? (0) no matter what I do I can't get rid of it. I've tried other phones in the same line but it still won't work. The phone has a dial tone but can't make any calls. How do I get rid of the message and get the display back to showing date and time. Is it something to do with the way the phone has been programmed or does it have something to do with the way the phone line has been connected (hardware)?

What you have is a phone that has been connected to a TN that has not been programmed. If you have already built the phone on a specific TN, check your jumper wires to be sure that you connected the station cable to the correct TN.

FYI - As I recall, the model ? display feature allows you to quickly build phones using a premade template and the phone itself. You build a template, say #1. You then can plug phnes in, enter 1 when it asks for model number, then enter the desired DN, and the phone is built. This is great for new installs where all your phones are set up the same.

Where do you assign the template you've built to the model number?
eg. If you set up tn 2 1 as a 500
tn 3 1 as a 2616 etc.

The tn would be separate from the model number. You would go into LD 11 and specify NEW (or PRT or CHG) with the phone type followed by <space> M for model number. It does come with some model numbers pre-programmed. So you might want to view and change the ones already there.

Build the model number and when you go to the phone set simply specify the model number when it asks. It will also ask for the DN's for the set (they have to be unique), so be prepared with those or it will use the default number base. For analog lines without a display, you would simply listen for the dialtone and hit # to follow the default model numbers. It is a really handy tool to set up many phones quickly. I have had some problems with trying to build 2008 ACD models, so now I just put a DN as the primary key and go to the phone and change it manually. Does anyone know a way around that problem?
