We are a company of about 80 people expecting to grow to 100 - 125 over the next couple of years. We are looking at the Nortel Meridian 1 Option 11C solution and was wondering what people who are knowledgeable about phone systems thought of this Nortel solution?

Thanks in advance,

DomP

11c's are great. Can easily fulfill the needs of 125 users. A little more expensive than some other solutions but very reliable.

I have 22 years in telecom the last 18 on nortel equipment and I would have to say that it is the only equipment I will sell. Also just wondering why not a 0 X 32 norstar with the XC software less expensive and with 2 DTI Cards
48 Lines and up to 192 extentions. Just asking.

I agree with Nortellian and Dtone. Nortel equipment is very stable but pricey. Another option for you may be the 3Com NBX. I have recently installed a 3Com NBX 100 in a remote office and tied it back into an option 61c. After eight months of trial the NBX seems to be a pretty good system for a small office. It does lack the extensive feature set of the Meridian but for a small business/office it semms to be a viable and inexpensive switch. We have a campus with 800+ users and utilize quite a few features that the 3Com unit does not support so I wouldn't want to recomend it for a similar situation.

We manage associations so we have about 20 entities that we answer the phone for, all with their own messaging and auto attendant trees. We currently have a Norstar system with a 3rd party voicemail but it's not as integrated as we would like.

Thanks

Nortel PBX equipment is great stuff! I have a bunch of Opt11's out there and they are very reliable. Get it with the built in Meridian Mail option for voicemail and see if your Nortel distributor can throw in some free off-site training (or at least a discount), makes life a bit easier. Learn to interact with the Opt11 at command line level, it's well worth the effort and hang on to TekTips for some of your help. There is some great talent acessing this website who can provide a wealth of information.

Although some will say my opinion is a bit jaded, I have to say I work where I do because I believe in the company and the product. It is an investment that certainly will last.

37 years in pbx and cert on 17 vendors equiptment, the only tech at bellsouth that i know of that can program rolm, mitel fugi simmons nec etc etc... i would never buy any switch except a nortel. Rolm was a better switch in it's day but that is a dead issue, simmons bought it and trashed the os. nortel is not easy to learn but day to day changes can be made by most it people, with otm it can even be made with a gui interface although i will not use it on a switch that is larger, the 81 i maintain has around 6000 stations with 20+ remotes plus a few 11's in remote sites. this switch did no down once 11 years ago and has not been ini'ed since the last upgrade 4 years ago.. hospitals are a little touchy about the phones dying.. also look into voip and or wireless apps.. nortel has the bugs out of those apps. symposium is a great tool if you need advanced acd routing and/or reporting.. and tha call pilot voice mail is a nt server based state of the art box.. i installed a rls 1 beta on that one and it was up for 13 months before a back up error, filled up the c drive, with raid, c was not a good target. the orig installed had it backing up across the network....just my two cents

Thanks guys,

Excuse my ignorance but is this Nortel solution and the Mitel 3300 somewhat comparable or are we talking apples and oranges? We have a Norstar product and wanted something with a better more integrated and multi auto attendant capablity and this Meridian solution was recommended. Sounds like it may be overkill for our needs but I'm not sure. Again, we aren't that large from a user count but we have over 20 organizations and will probably have 30 - 40 by the end of a 5 year period.

Thanks a bunch,

Dom

may be a little oversize for that app. and it is a switch as opposed to a keysystem.. features and documtation will be far greater on the nortel..

Actually if you have an existing Norstar, Save alot of time and money, just go with a BCM, it has an integrated Call Pilot, with many tree options, and expandable for your company, plus you would not need new phones, saving that expense.

have heard a lot of good about the bcm line and did go throught the schools, have installed early versions.. not bad if you feel a key system is the largest thing you will ever need.. i would rather have a small pbx operating at half it's cap then a key system pushing it's limits
