Merging and Restoring specific files?

When attempting to merge and restore info I am unable to restore specific files. The session will show itself and allow me to restore it in its entirety but querying an individual file turns up empty. Is there a correct method for restoring a specific file?
( Arcserve 6.5 on nt server)

If the information isn't in your database, I've found success with the following. Scan the tape for session information, if needed. Perform a restore using device or media view and select the proper session needed. Then add a filter for files and directory. This restore method does take longer to locate the information, but it works. I am still wondering how the query restore works too!
