I have Arcserve 6.6 running on a NW5 server.
Recently we had a major power problem and even the UPS briefly stopped - long enough to cut off the server unexpectedly.

When I started the server up I could not load Arcserve. It couldn't find the arserve job queue. I called CA Tech Support and was instructed to reload Arcserve and then merge the tape I wanted to backup. I did this but when I go to restore the database all I can see is the sys volume on the tape - what I REALLY need is the share volume where the data was stored. (I tried merge 3 more times -sucessfully).

My question is did the merge delete the data on Share volume from my tape or if I reload and do it all again might it work properly?

I have 6 day previous (full backup each night) but if this tape is screwed up I have lost an entire day of data entry (This is alot for my company). Computer Associates Tech Help seemed to want to get me off the phone rather than help me.

Does your merge job merge all sessions? Usually the first session on the tape is SYS which would be consistent with merging only the first session.

Is your server seeing the Arcserve queue ok? If not, follow the following TID:
Do you get any Arcserve database errors? If so, stop Arcserve, copy the contents of EMPTYDB into DATABASE, restart Arcserve.

Make sure the merge job is merging all sessions. Alternatively, perform a tape scan and identify the required session for your share volume and merge this only.

You were right in the fact that I had only merged the first session (actually I told it to merge ALL sessions but it only merged session one). I had to go back and tell it to merge session two (and then three). Done one at the time they took longer but merged fine. I was able to restore all the needed data with no problem.

Thanks for the help.
