Merge layers 2

I am using photoshop CS, and one of my projects contains 8 layers, and I want to merge layer 4 and 7 and I also want to merge layer 5 and 6, but how do I merge layers??

various ways:- probably best in this instance to hide the layers you are not interested in, then merge visisble ... all this is done in the layers palette on the right hand side

you can also link the two layers and then merge linked from the layer pallete menu and you can keep everything visible while doing this
