merge done after tapecopy fails in bb 11.1

Hello.

I have a bb 11.1 system, that I am running rotation jobs on that back-up to file system devices. As a post script, I am running a tapecopy that consolidates my chosen (queried) sessions to a tape. My problem is that the merge job on the tapecopied tape fails.
The odd thing is, is that if I do a incremental job that stages to disk, then to tape, the merge runs. But if I do a full backup, (~240 gig to AIT-3), it fails every time. The error in the log is either an "Unable to find session number....EC=INCOMPLETE SESSION" or "Unable to Position Session Trailer....EC=NO DATA DETECTED." A scan fails to find the session number as well.

The incrementals go onto 1 tape. The Full will span across 3 tapes.

These are the command lines I'm using: (FULL)

tapecopy" -d GROUP0 -c"W-TAPENAME-%DATE%" -qMethod FULL -qJobNo 6 -qPastTime 3 -m MEDIAPOOL -g

INCR:
tapecopy" -d GROUP0 -c"W-TAPENAME-%DATE%" -qMethod INCR -qJobNo 6 -qPastTime 1 -m MEDIAPOOL -g

I have "Enable Catalog Database" turned off.

I can restore from the disk backup.

The tape drives appear to be in good working order, (Spectra Logic 10000 with 2 AIT-3 drives), and a regular full will run (no disk staging). I have applied the most recent patches to 11.1 from supportconnect.

The system is a Dell 2650 with a PowerVault 220 and PERC 3/QC raid controller.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

How is the tape drive/library connected ?

If it is via the RAID controller that is probably the cause of your problem.

The tape library is attached via a adaptec 39160 controller. The array is by itself on the raid controller.

This is also a win2k3 server as well...

I'm still testing....just wanted to throw some more information out there while I'm at it.

This data is already highly compressed, (lots of small sound files), and hardware compression on the drive is still on. Should I turn it off, at least for data like this?

Sometimes, I get a 'media error' on the source drive, (fsd disk) while the tapecopy is in progress. Here's is a snippet from the tape log:

I don't know if this is related to my merging problem or not. It doesn't happen every time.

Thanks as always!
