Hello,

After a Database initializing of just the ASTPSDAT, I always get the followings errors/warning while trying to do a merge from any tapes:

E3841 Unable to find session number
W3884 Unable to position media catalog file
Retry merge operation with the sequential merge method
E3803 Invalid file trailer signature

I have tried merging the entire backup and also just a session of the backup but no luck.

We have our database on the C:drive which always gets full.
Running Win NT 4.0 sp6 with Arcserve 6.61
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

thks, Vinh

HI,

OPen the registry using Regedt32 on the ARCserve server.

Under HKLM\Soft\Comp.Asso\ARcserveIT\Base\Task\Merge
Note: if the merge key is not available create it.

add the following value

DonotUseCatalogMerge
Set DonotUseCatalogMerge:REG_DWORD:1 (TRUE)

This will read the data of the tape recreate the CAT files and merge the tape...

Hope this helps

cheers

Hello Speshalyst,

Thank-you kindly for your reply which is very helpful. After adding your recommedation I was able to merger info back into the database.

Although the info was merge, would you know why the dirrectory structure of the merge info is not the same structure as originally backed up.

example:
Original: ServerName-->Vol1--->User--->Data

Merge: would have the same as original but would add additional directories which are empty.

user/jdoe/notes/txt and etc....

Another question: Is there anyway I can speed up the merge process or does it take as long as the backup process.

thks again, Vinh.
