Is it possible to create a mercator map that reads from an IDOC (output from SAP) and inserts it to a Sybase database and/or Oracle 8i?

Hi,

Yes! it is possible to to create a mercator map that reads from an IDOC (output from SAP) and inserts it to a Sybase database and/or Oracle 8i.
For reading the IDoc from the SAP you need to use ALE adapter which will pull the Idoc from SAP and make it available as an input to the Mercator Input card & then you can do the processing on this data in your output card wherein you can specify where you want to have your output like would you like to put your output to a Sink, File, Databse etc.. there are many options available which you can find in the output card options.
In short in my opinion it is very much possible.

cheers,
Shrini.

Thanks Shrini.

Hope you can excuse my ignorance... but I'm totally new at this so I have no clue how to go about this. I've studied several existing Mercator maps we have right now. But so far, those that exists goes the opposite of what I'm looking for, i.e. a procedure creates a text file (saved in a UNIX directory) for specific data from sybase tables --> text file becomes input for mercator --> mercator outputs an EDI file that then serves as input for SAP. My question is regarding the ALE adapter. Can you explain in a little more detail how to use the ALE adapter to pull out the idocs from SAP?

Thanks so much for bearing with me!

If you don't have the SAP IP, you won't have the documentation that explains how to do this. ALE adapter connects to SAP Gateway and pulls the data. You also create the tree from the IDOC metadata via the importer.
