I have a menu on the right side of the desktop (xp pro). it looks like a folder menu that you can't right click it and you can't get it off.
Any ideas let me know.

What information is on this "Folder Menu"?

folder task
make a new folder
other places
my documents
my network places
details

you can open the folders from the menu
this might help!
she said she was trying to add something to her active desktop, then it said to insert Xp Standard disc, and they don't have it so she hit cancel and that is when it showed up!

Is there a folder options button at the top of the screen that you can click on? When you say Desktop do you mean Desktop as in Wallpaper and Icons or do you mean desktop just as in computer screen?

NO FOLDER OPTION.
desktop as in computer screen
bar is on left side of computer screen
(about 2"wide) running all the way down and the regular desktop fills the rest of the screen.

If you have a restore point available, use it. It is likely in any case when you reboot that Active Desktop will ask for a repair.
