Hi,

As well as my HD issues, i now have memorystick problems..

I have a 1GB stick and when i put in the USB of my new motherboard, it read the stick and said it was installing new hardware as it does, but then all of a sudden kept saying 'This USB device is unrecognizable' - a malfunction or something, but anyway, not matter what pc i use it on, nothing happens, not even the transfer light comes on anymore..

Is there anyway to still retrieve data of it or do i just write-it off and scrap it and cry about all the files i have now lost? haha

Cheers,

I would try it on another machine first just to make sure before ditching it. if another machine can read it at least you can burn that data to a CD and have it saved.

I have had issues with data loss on memory sticks as well... I was able to successfully retrieve the data using third party recovery utilities... I actually used GetDataBack and was successful in retrieving 100% of my stuff...

However, the stick was utterly useless... I haven't junked it yet, becuase I keep thinking I will find a utility that will allow me to correct the problem... I tried fdisk, partitionmagic, etc... to reformat, repartition the drive, but nothing worked... But I got my data back...

I look in the mirror and what do I see...

Flash drives have a finite amount of writes in them, and they are very suceptible to power shorts.

Always back them up... good thing though is they are cheaper then ever before. :)

Thanks everyone for the tips but I think as no computer will read my memorystick at all, its time to admit that i should write-it-off completely and chalk it down to experience, haha..
