Hi Folks

I need your opinion please as I am puzzled by the nmon statistics I ran this morning after installing 1024 MB mem chips & adapter on F50 server. Before the chips were installed the statistics shows mem usage 99% and I assumed after installing the chips it would reduce yet it still shows up at 99%. What does it mean? That it requires more mem chips? Or does 99% mean it is actually working 99% or its usage is 99% full?

nmon v7a [H for help] Hostname=blbf50 Refresh=2.0secs 15:03.34
Memory Use Physical Virtual Paging pages/sec In Out VM parameters
% Used 99.9% 1.1% to Paging Space 0.0 0.0 numperm 72.2%
% Free 0.1% 98.9% to File System 1.0 7.0 minperm 20.0%
MB Used 2045.1MB 20.9MB Page Scans 0.0 maxperm 79.8%
MB Free 2.9MB 1803.1MB Page Cycles 0.0 minfree 120
Total(MB) 2048.0MB 1824.0MB Page Reclaim 0.0 maxfree 128

The size and usage of paging space is

Page Space Physical Volume Volume Group Size %Used Active Auto Type
paging00 hdisk6 rootvg 912MB 2 yes yes lv
hd6 hdisk0 rootvg 912MB 2 yes yes lv
Is there I should be concerned about?

Any more tests I should run to judge how the server is performing?

Thanking you all in advance,

Regards

Katherine

Thats normal. The page reclaim rate is setting at 0. From the looks of the output I don't think you actually needed to added memory. You might want to read the FAQ on LVM to get a full understanding of how AIX handles its memory usage. Click on FAQs above and look for Understanding How AIX Manages Memory / Page Space. If you are still concerned you can run lsps -s and that will show you what amount of your paging space has been accessed. I really think it will show a low number there. It really has a lot to do with whats running, how many page scans and reclaims you are doing and how your box is tuned. Rather your are using defaults or if you have made adjustments using vmtune. Read the doc first and if you still have questions or concerns I will be glad to help.
