I've got a KT400 MSI board (KT4V) and just picked up a Barton 2500+ cpu. For memory I grabbed Kingston's HyperX 512 stick with CL2 2-2-5 1T timing. It cost a little more, but I decided to go with the faster stuff.
Unfortunately those settings causes my system to be very unstable, "unexpected errors" and near constant rebooting (using SPD to set up the memory settings). Playing around, my system is seeming to run fine at CL2 3-3-6 1T timing. Could it be the stick or the motherboard not working properly at the higher performance settings? I do not have any other equipment around to test other hardware.
Basically, I payed for extra performance, and dang it, I want to benefit from it, no matter how small of an increase!!
