I am trying to upgrade my computer memory, and i know that the memory model needs to be the same as the one as my computer is using, the memory that my system has is a kingston value ram # kvr133x64c2/128 , now i figured that i needed a bigger memory so i order a kvr133x64c2/512 same model but its a 512 now i install the new memory and i got this message windows2000root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe nothing would load, so i took out the 512 and install the 128 back and it work, why won't it take tke 512 is it damage, or is it not compatible with the software or computer? i can't figure anything bacause in order for me to scan my computer for a memory compatibility i need to be connected to the internet, but i need a 256 minimum for a dsl lione so i can't do nothing is there another way to connect to the internet usin a 128 memory????

Should work, what make & model is your computer. Try both sticks & see what happens

I have tried both but i still get the same message, my computer can be upgraded to 512 and if i put both sticks it doesn't do anything because it have exceeded its capacity, do you think its the memoryor software? because it can read the 128 but not the 512 ,, and is there any other way to connect to the internet using the 128 stick? can i connect using a dsl router, i have another computer which i used for work and have acces to the internet using verizon dsl can i used that connection or do i still need a 256 in the second one in order to work

You should be able to connect with the work computer, give it a try. Do you know the model & make of the system you are trying to upgrade?, as that might help in answering your question.

Sounds like that 512 chip is either bad or incompatible with your system. Its obviously causing a problem. Could try getting it replaced. btw - you don't need to buy exactly the same memory for it to work - any reputable PC133 SDRAM should do.

Why do you need 256MB for dsl line (does your isp's set up software check the machine - and won't install otherwise?)

yeah my isp software won't allow me to install it because i required a minimum of 256, and is it true can put in any PC133 SDRAM memory in there????

You can put any PC133 in there, but get a good reputable brand, beware there is a lot of inferior memory products out there, and be sure it has solid warranty

badsilver696,

Why don't you try putting the 512MB PC133 module in the PC by itself taking out the 128MB?

It's possible that your motherboard has a maximum of 512MB, or that the 512MB and the 128MB don't play well together.

If you still need help, please post the make/model of your motherboard or PC...

A quick check on should determine if you are using the right memory. Get on there and enter the details of your computer. They will display the specs you need. Hope this helps.
