I need some guidence, I am new to AIX realm and have been tasked to figure out why several of our servers are reaching 80 to 90 percent utilzation over a course of 4 weeks, we upgraded the servers to AIX 5.2 (no ML), obviously when we reboot the servers the go to 20%.

Need help
Each Server is a Web Server running Netscape

Flushing persistent pages would be plain stupid. That's one of the things that makes Unix efficient.

And paging doesn't harm at all. AIX prioritises memory well and putting pages on disk can be a good thing even if you have memory available.

Tell you boss that there's nothing to worry about.

Cheers

I agree with unixfreak.

The way UNIX works it that it uses buffers and cache to store data. This eliminates the need to go to disk for information.

Do not worry about huge memory utilization. If a program needs memory, AIX will give it to you as needed.

I feel alittle comfortable
You have used the default settings for paging space
what would be a good tuning measure?

minperm%=
maxclient%=
maxperm%=

In my opinion :
no answers to that question.
depend on what kind of application you are running and how they behave.
re-read all previous answers.
you can't have a tunning solution without taking some measures and have a good knowledge of your activity. So don't expect having an absolute solution here , just guidelines.

Bye.
