Memory Issues ???

The system is an Intel DP55WG, 4 DDR3 2GB Memory, I7 2800, Windows 7 64, Corsair 750 Power.

All of the sudden I could not boot, I got 3 beeps and the count stops at #21.

Removed the Memory Sticks and started one by one. When it starts up, sometimes it boots fine but then I restart with that same Memory stick it gets the 3 beep again. Sometimes if I install 2 Sticks it only reads 1 and sometimes it reads both.

The odd issue is that when I just freshly re-install the Memory Stick (one or several) it may start fine but if I reboot I get the three beeps; then if I remove those Memory sticks and re install the same ones in the exact banks it will restart fine .....???

I have run CCleaner, checked for Malaware have Kaspersky running and no issues there. Ran "House Call" .... nothing.

Any Ideas ............???

This is a hardware issue, not software or virus/malware.

I would look in the manual and see if you could flash the CMOS. Wouldnt hurt to check out the board manufacturer's website and see if they pushed any new BIOS updates that fix similar issues.

Sounding like RAM or motherboard at this point. I would reseat the RAM until it boots, with one stick, and have it load Memtest and let it run about 2 or more passes. If it fails, try again with the other stick.

I agree, this is Hardware related.

To completely rule out your memory, you could try them in another machine. If they exhibit the same behavior, then it may be an issue with them.

If not, then maybe the memory slots in the MB have a problem.

If you can borrow other memory modules that are known to work, again test them in your machine, if they exhibit the same behavior then problem is your motherboard.

But a thorough MEMtest of the modules is also a good idea.

then problem is your motherboard.
or the memory controller, which would mean that you would need to replace the CPU...

so at this stage, it could be RAM, mainboard, or CPU...

do you also have a spare PSU laying around, if so switch out the Corsair and then test again, I've seen strange behavior that where related to the PSU, and it would rule it out of the equation...

perhaps an overclocking issue? many new BIOS settings automatically have some sort of overclocking enabled.....

Well .... I hadn't turner it off but I got a BLUE Screen with the following

STOP ... 0x000001A (0x{11 ceros}41790 (0xFFFFFA800293AD50
0x0{12 ceros}FFFF) 0x{16 ceros}

If that gives you guys any clues of what the problem could be.

I have since tried to restart with no avail. I have used ALL 4 2GB memory modules individualy in Channel A, Dimm 0; same no start. It goes to #21 stops then restarts goes to #21 and beeps 3 times forever until I turn it off manualy.

Thanks to all of you for your input !!!!

No Overcloking what so ever. Unplugged everything.

Don't have another Computer with DDR3 to test modules.

Does it matter in which Channel I set the Modules in or I have to al least place one in Channel 0 Dimm A??

With the above tests I mentioned, you dont have to have it boot into Windows, just as long as if POSTs. Some motherboards are picky about where you place the RAM, without looking over the manual, Id say try another slot.

I think someone said this somewhere but have you removed any nonessential components? Meaning are you starting this up with just RAM, PSU, Processor w/ Heatsink or do you still have other things connected? Easiest way to troubleshoot components is to have only the necessary parts connected and then go from there.

"just as long as if POSTs" .....

Does this mean that something shows on screen??? Well, when it gets to the three beeps nothing shows on screen.

I have the drives, the Video Card, also connected, but Nothing else execpt RAM, PSU, Processor w/ Heatsink.

Do those 0x000... codes mean anything specific?

Thanks guys..

Yes and no, they are a broad range with memory being in there. Does your board have onboard video, if so remove the video card as the onboard RAM could be an issue.

"Silence is golden, duct tape is silver...

Remove the drives, and as Bob points out if you have onboard video remove the extra video card and use the onboard one.

The point here is to streamline as much as possible so you don't have anything else that might interfere.

Everything is Off, except the essential and it Stops at #21 and beeps 3 times.

Is it possible or likely that all 4 memory sticks went Bad?

It seems that it was progressive. Hummm.

Any ideas on those 0x0 ..... codes?

Did you try them in another slot? Could be a faulty RAM slot as mentioned before.

"Silence is golden, duct tape is silver...

Have tried every Ram Stick on all Slots...
All I get is #21

From your experience, could you guys believe that ALL the Memory Sticks Went Bad? Or should I lean towards that the problem is the Motherboard.

This PC has been working 'normally' since January 2010 with the same exact configuration with these 4 Mem sticks?

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance ...

It does seem rather unlikely that ALL memory sticks failed, although, as you have been moving them from one slot to another I guess anything is possible.

What is the BIOS make and the make of the machine BTW?

Intel DP55WG -- Custom Built

Talked to Intel Warranty and I will get a new MOBO tomorrow!!

I've tried the memory stick on another computer and they are all in working condition. So, I figured that it has to be the MOBO

When it comes on, like now, I keep it on. Until I replace the Board tomorrow hoping this nightmare stops !!!

I'll keep you informed. Thanks so much.

Error codes for your board are here:
3 beeps and error #21 are either memory or chipset problem. Assuming error #21 is a Port 80 code, then it is defined as "Initializing a chipset component". That sounds like motherboard to me.

Have you tried loading defaults from within BIOS?
