we have 2 pieces SIM SDRAM both 64Megs. previously, both SIM memory work properly in my sistem. But last my sistem often hang up. is because my memory with different merk ? or anothers

You say that previously the memory was working.

Cast your mind back a little. Did you install any software recently? Any other hardware?

Is there anything at all that has happened to the computer in the period between it working and when it started to hang?

Many things can cause a system to hang, but it is very unlikely that a memory chip will suddenly give errors. It is more likely that a recently introduced component will try to access memory addresses that are not available for it.

Hope this helps

my pc ever down suddenly , and i don't know what this cause
after this incident my SIM RAM going to trouble..

we try to remove in another PC but we get same trouble.
the BIOS CAN Detected my SIM RAM properly but doesn't work
my sistem BIOS Award latest version.

anybody can help me !

I'm not sure that I understand you here;

Are you saying that the memory does not work in another machine?

Are you also saying that the BIOS detects the memory, but can't use it?

What is the make and model of your motherboard?

What are the makes, models, sizes and types of SIMMs that you are using?

If you are mixing EDO and non-EDO RAM you may get this type of issue.

Does the machine work with other SIMMs?

Good Luck!

You'll also see this problem in some cases if the timing on those SIMMs is different, which happens frequently if you have different brands.

Never seen this with different timings, ShaithisDanoveur, although I suppose it's possible :)

RAM settles to the lowest common denominator - ie if you've got 2x70ns and 6x60ns (since SIMMs must be in matched pairs), the whole lot'll run at 70ns.

My preference is to have completely identical SIMMs in any given machine. With current prices I don't think there's any excuse to mix and match ;-)

Better still, upgrade the mobo to one that takes DIMMs and load it up with a 256Mb Kingston or Crucial.

I've seen it hundreds of times, particularly with cheaper RAM. Just because it's stamped 70ns doesn't mean it is 70ns, same for 60ns. Most common problem is an access vio or a 0E error.

It's not as prevalent anymore, as the PC100/PC133 tends to be off by only a single nanosecond instead of as much as 20 or more for mismarks.

That old 70ns stuff used to wreck some acquisition units when paired with 60ns stuff - talk about weird data readings ;)
