Memo field text retrieval

In my table I have a memo field that is used to log entries made by the users. Each entry is preceeded by the users initials, date/time and some other misc characters (i.e. "***** Tue, 9/7/04 01:16 SDT").

My question: I would like to search each record's memo field for the last entry made to that record in this particular memo field. Is this possible? if so, how?

If my memory is correct, MEMO fields are just that, a BIG field (64,000+) that stores information that can not be searched, sorted, used in a query etc. If you need to do any of the above, the field must be a TEXT field and that is limited to 255 characters.
