Howdy Avaya'ers -

We have 2 bridges (short codes *55 and *56), each defined with the "Conference Meet Me" feature.

They work OK for internal calls (one short beep and they're in conference). External callers SHOULD hear our "Welcome to our conference bridge" greeting - but instead hear: "Your call has been answered by Avaya IP Office. Extension x1234 is not available".

I should mention that (under R8 Manager) "Short Codes" is the only place I see where the "Conference Meet Me" feature can be set (does this seem right?)

In the past I had a problem with VM answering Meet Me callers. That problem was equally annoying; the bridge's VM box was filling up with "uh, I'm calling in for the conference, uh...." messages.

What am I missing? Surely this is simpler than I'm making it out to be! :)

Thanks in advance!

you must have this pinted to an extn or group as a conf bridge doesn not have a mailbox.

You need to use VM pro to play a greeting and then trasfer to the conf short code.

If you are not sure about this, your Avaya Business Partner can do this in about 2 mins. (or should be able to )

I usually set this up as a module in vmpro which allows me to personalize a greeting and perform a security pin check before transfering to the short code. If this is an option for you I can share the module.

Thanks for your responses!

Hi Jamie - Yes, I could call the vendor - but I'm not sure it'd ever been set up right to begin with. The bridge does point to an extn but always had a mailbox. I disabled its mailbox but still get the same Avaya message as before, plus "sorry, the mailbox is not accepting messages". How do I use that extn's VMpro greeting and reach the bridge if there isn't a corresponding mailbox available? (Is the forwarding done in Announcements under Manager v8? - I don't see a forward option in vmpro). Plus - why would it behave differently for external callers?

Hi cdavis - Re the vmpro module - I've seen this done before, it looks cool. We (so far) haven't needed the security pin feature but I'd love to get there eventually. Especially once I can get conferencing working right...

Part of this is that I'd love to figure this out myself...

Thanks all,

why would it behave differently for external callers?

There is no way for external callers to reach the conf bridge by default, it needs to be programmed to allow it, therefor it's programmed incorrectly. It can be done many many different ways so we can't just say "go here, click this", hence the suggestion you get someone familiar with the systems workings on the case :)

I'm assuming correctly you do actually have VM Pro???

Interesting. The bridges actually work! - it's the greeting that's wrong.

If I hit "2" during the "Your call has been answered by Avaya...." greeting, it goes straight to the bridge. "2" is the DTMF breakout for the bridge's short code (*56).

So all's I need to do (I think) is get a decent greeting on these bridges somehow...

Keep the ideas coming!, much appreciated!

thanks!

That is a daft way of doing it.

Send the call to a VM Pro module, let that play a greeting then transfer to *56.

Change the greeting module to a menu if you have multiple bridges.

Add PIN where needed.

Simples.

Using a user is not necesary at all and confusing.

Hi Jamie -

OK, VMpro module it is then. How do I get your sample? Thanks in advance!

By paying my company for support of your system!!!!

Short of doing it, it's all above!

If your current supplier cannot do this, they should find a new career path!!!

Thanks all, I believe I have it all working now. OK, it's the daft way, at least for now.
