Zoey, if you really do have a DLT7000 drive (uses DLT IV tapes at a native size of 35GB and "theorectical" compression size of 70gb, thus the 7000) then it could be that the tape was originally written to with an older format. For instance, if it was originally written to with a DLT4000 drive then the format may be 20/40gb instead of 35/70GB. If the setting on your drive was not to force max mode on overwrites, then it would maintain that older 20/40 format. Your best bet is to call you h/w vendor and confirm that your drive is setup to overwrite tapes with the best format available to your drive. Also, you can try changing the compression mode in your backup exec jobs to Software compression. This will show in the job logs what kind of compression ratio you are getting. If it shows a compression of 1:1 for each backup set then that would explain why it needs a 2nd tape after 35gb of data has been streamed. Good luck...
