Media plays slightly faster than normal. 1

OK, can someone tell me why my media files play at about 1.5 times the normal speed?! I have tried playing MP3 and MPEG files on Winamp and Media Player and I always get the same result. It's like i'm listening to an old version of the chipmunks.
I have a PIII 800 Mhz with 256 RAM running on Win2K Server.

Try updating your sound driver. I've read about that issue on some board, and as far as I remember driver update helped.

Yes, either install new drivers or re-install the ones you have, that should do it.

your codec could be the problem. try updating it. uninstall old one first.
