Every time I go to open a windows media file, or an mpeg, when the player comes up it always tries to log me onto the internet before playing. Apparently, it is searching for a codec. THios gets very annoying. After all, the files are on my hard drive, and it tries to log on a few times, and aI alwasy have to cancel out. Does anyone know where I can change the setting so it does not attempt to download the codec every time I open a file like this ?

Any help is muc appreciated - thanks in advance

You should be able to change this in tools>options

After you open WMP, go to Tools/Options/Player tab. There you will find a checkbox for "Enable Auto Codec Download" Uncheck that. I can only assume that's where it's coming from
