Hi all!

I'm using XP Pro SP1 and recently my Media Player has decided not to play sounds on avi files. It seems fine for all other applications. I know it's not the avi files as they play fine in the divx player. I tried to upgrade to WMP10, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is it just sound, do you have video displayed for AVI in WMP?

Have you checked in the WMP/ Tools/ Options/ File Types, see if AVI files are checked in the box to be played in WMP.

It's just sound, the video plays fine. I don't think it's a codec, because the same video will play fine with video/audio in the divx player.

Can mplayer2.exe (located in the same folder as WMP 9 or 10) play the sound?

Does the same thing. First I get "Unable to download an appropriate decompressor." Them after I click CLOSE, the video starts with no sound. I reinstalled the divx codec (and Xvid and 3ivx, just to be sure), but I still get the same thing.

Any clues here?
