Anyone using it?

We have a customer that has Media Manager configured and working.

All users are configured under self administration for Media Manager - replay own recordings.

A customer assumed this would mean that when the username on an extension is updated - so effectively a new self administration login - the recordings would then only be those made since that user was renamed, but it shows all calls by that extension number regardless of the name of the user.

I can only assume this is how Avaya intended it, but this is a powered by system so I cannot just raise an IPOSS case for an answer and instead am having to wait on our Disti to reply to my query.

Or have I just missed an obvious setting somewhere?

i would expect ut to persist. people get married, divorced, soneimes croak and change their names. It's extension level recording, not user recording.

Depending on the URI configuration the ICR can be completely ignored.

If your URI is configured to use internal data then the IP Office will look into the user's SIP tab and if you have *'s it will look into ICR.

Yep, the extension is basically the primary key.
Which on the one hand makes a lot of sense as holdmusic34 said but on the other (e.g. someone leaves the company and gets replaced) is a big problem because it basically means that every new user has to get a new extension - otherwise they have access to their predecessors recordings..

@holdmusic34 Is there/will there be a bulk delete tool?

Would be handy in those instances...

Response from Avaya is as expected

“The behavior you describe is Design Intent, this is how product was designed and is meant to work, the assumption customer made was incorrect. The main identifier of IP Office User object is extension number, and replay rights are given based on the extension, where the name is secondary and could be changed not affecting replay rights assigned earlier. Name is simple and arbitrary text string, not a unique identifier.”

Have now asked how we can delete recordings from Media Manager in that case.

You can argue that extension shouldn't be a "unique" identifier, most other systems create an ID when the user is created so the recordings follow even if you change the name or extension of the user.
This do require that you create the users in the recording system.

Now I see MM as a cheap alternative if you don't have any special requirements where this would be an issue, in all other cases we use 3rd party recording.

Well we know that extension number isn't the user's unique identifier. Its the user's Name.

If you have users Alice and Bob, swapping their extension numbers does cause the swapping of any of their other settings or personal data.

If you have user Alice, delete user Alice, then add user Bob and give Bob the same extension that Alice used to use, Bob won't get any of Alice's previous settings or access to Alice's former messages.

The Voicemail Pro also uses the user's Name for their mailbox. So all their voicemail messages are based on their user Name.

So Media Manager basing user recordings on their extension number is an exception.

I suspect "design intent" in this case means "we didn't think about that".

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
