Media Encoder + RDP/VNC = no audio + death

Hey all.

I've just discovered Windows Media Encoder and Windows Media Services (on Win Server 2003) and had a webchat thingy setup yesterday which all went quite well. however, I was wanting to have an extra pc in the room with the webchat going on (one with the webchat software, one for the webcam WME functionality) and be able to remote access it (tried both RDP and VNC) so as to start/stop/switch streams etc. However, when remote accessing the machine the audio devices disappear...!

What I mean is, when I go to edit/set up an encoding session, I go to choose/change the audio device and the list of audio devices that are there when I log on the the pc directly are not there when logged on to remotely.

One of the missing ones is the microphone. Hence it crashes.


Any ideas why remote access to a pc disables access to the some devices? I'm logging on as administrator whatver method I use to access it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated - this media stuff is a welcome break from the usual web development monotony..

Interesting idea, but why would that only affect the remote access and not the local access of the encoder pc?
