Does anyone know if ARCserve supports media duplication? I want to establish some kind of disk staging. This means backing up to a hard disk and then copy this virtual media to a tape. All I found is the tapecopy command. Is there a way to duplicate media using the ARCserve gui? Thanks.

The only method via the GUI (in v9) is to make use of the RAID option, and create a mirrored set of tapes when doing your backups. There is no GUI to the tapecopy command as of yet.

RAID option is the only option and in this case it will not work. So your only option is to use tapecopy. Most users add it to the job as a Post command so it runs automaticly after each backup.

why wouldn't tape raid work for staging? sounds to be an interesting option.

The above description says data is to go from sourse to disk to tape. So Tape RAID would be going from disk to tape which is not supported. Tape RAID option only works with tape drives of the same make and model.

Tapecopy is still not in the GUI but is pretty easily to setup. If you have configured the parameters you can also use the job scheduler Wizard from the ARCserve GUI to automate the tapecopy process.
