Hi:

For about two weeks now I've been getting a "media database not responding" message in my savegroup completion reports. The message only comes up when I'm doing Oracle backups whether it be Hots, Colds, or Archive backups. The message has been consistent on two clients, and this morning it showed up on 2 more clients. I've been going around on this with our 3rd party support vendor, who has suggested many things short of rebuolding the clients in question. They seem to think the problem may be with the oracle scripts, but I discounted that suggestion because I have been backing up 15 clients daily without the message coming up for years. Any help would be appreciated.

That message can come from the backup server being busy.
Busy doing what is a good question.

When the server does a bootstrap save one could get this message; the mediab is unresponsive (queries and updates)
when a bootstrap save occurs. If you have a group or groups
doing this (look for bootstrap in the savegroup completion)
that could be the problem.

Also nsrim running could do this.

In NW 6, it is also possible that the media db is just defect. In case you have to recover (mmrecov) i usrge you to update to NW 7 just for this purpose. The media db has become much more stable, thanks to checksums and journaling.

Thanks to RMinNJ and 605 for the replies. Turns out I had made a mod to the /etc/hosts file on the client and it did not recognize the client server alias.

Thanks again... mkapsak
