Hello,

What is the function of a MDU board in a Trading System.

Thanks,

Kings

1 General
The printed board assembly Multi-party and Detection Unit (MDU) is a support- board in the Line Interface Module (LIM) of ASB 501 04 designed to provide speech detection and monitoring functions. The MDU Board is based on the board TMU (Tone and Multi-Party Unit). The difference between TMU and MDU is only related t o software (DSP- and DP-software). It should be noted that there are TMU-functions that are not utilized by MDU (DTMF/Tone reception and sending, analog inputs for music on hold). The MDU can be initiated to handle A-law or -law Pul se Code Modulation (PCM).

The MDU occupies 32 time-slots of the LIM.

A maximum of 6 time-slots can be utilized for speech detection. These time-slots are located at fixed positions (See table). A total of 30 time-slots can be used for the monitoring function. This means that the six individuals available for speech detection, are used as normal multi-party (monitoring) individuals, when speech detection is not applied.
The input time-slots used for speech detection are used for monitoring at the same time (i.e. a time slot used for speech detection can also be used as an input to a monitoring mix). If an input is used for speech detection, this input individual will also be available at the output of that individual (i.e transparently passed from input to output on the same individual number). These outputs may be used for the monitoring function, but will always, in the case of speech detection, have the particular input included in monitoring.

The algorithm used for speech detection is based on the DTMF-reception algorithm used by TMU. This means that the MDU speech detection function assumes that the frequency content of speech is located within the frequency ranges used by the DTMF scheme.

The board functions are controlled by a 16-bit CMOS Device Processor (DP) which contains an Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) for asynchronous communication with Signal Processor (SP).

The DP controls/supervises the following functions:

monitoring, controlled by Tone and Conference Handler (TCH).
speech detection, controlled by communication with the DSP.
The DP program which is coded in C-language and assembler, uses a real-time operating system MICROS (developed by EBC) which supervises various tasks. The DSP-program is programmed in Assembly.
