Hi,

I need to connect to my MDR-2000 with modem (thru Hyperterminal). When the remote modem (connected to the MDR-2000 buffer) answers, Hypertermial comes with a blank screen and nothing happens even if I press any key on the keyboard.

What Should happen when the sessions connects. Should I see any login screen requesting a userid and a password ?

Should I press any specific key to have that login screen appear ?

What is the default userid and password on that kind of buffer ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi DocVic,

Thanks for your reply, but when I press CTRL H nothing happens. The Hyperthermial window stays blank.

We may think that the buffer is in trouble but we have 3 buffers in 3 different locations and all of them behaves the same way.

I tried different Hyperterminal configuration settings and nothing change.

My local modem (connected to my pc) is an external U.S. Robotics 33.6k Fax Ext PnP. (wich is quite standard in terms of modem)

The remote modem (connected to MDR-2000) is the same model as my local modem.

Do you have an idea why it is not working on all 3 buffers ?

Since it is not working on all 3, I suspect my hyperterminal configuration to be wrong but I really tried many different settings and nothing changes.

Thanks for any help.

Ctrl VIM will bring up the basic Information screen. The MDR is normally set to 1200, N, 8, 1. All of the parameter can be changed in this screen. Did you get a manual with these units? You need to test your configurations before you send them to the sites to eliminate these problems.

Your MDR is configured for a certain baud rate, parity etc. You have to make sure you have these settings correct. When you hear it dial did it have a nice clean handshake sound?

Also, have these 3 buffers worked fine before or are they a newly setup?

Ok, I found it. I will tell you what I found in case someone else need it. It is only my understanding so I may not use the proper terms to explain it. Feel free to give any precisions.

When the modem connects to the buffer, the blank screen is normal because the buffer is, by default, running in "batch mode" (for downloading its data to a computer via a script).

If you want to work with the buffer configuration, you must put the buffer in "interactive mode". To do this, you have to press CTRL-V followed by IM then press ENTER.

You should see the M2K> prompt. Thiks means that you are now in "Interactive mode"

Type H (Enter) for "Help" and a list of commands.

Hoping that this infomration can help someone else.

By the way, does someone knows where I can find the "user guide" in PDF format for a Buffer MDR-2000

Thanks
