Does anyone had problems with the MDP REFRESH or MDP INSTALL command?
Few times i had PBX to init or sysload, on differents system, on rls 4.0 or 4.5
It seems that this procedure is not safe. I'm guessing the patches number to install is now too large for that command. It work fine when patching one by one.
Maybe some patch files are also too large.

Feedback or solution welcome

i usually use mdcs in 143, it works without fail to this point.. i have heard of that problem with smaller systems but not on the 81

MDP install or refresh will INI the system if you have a certain patch already installed. Sorry, I don't have that patch number handy to post here. There are several MDP bulletins describing this problem. If you have access to the Nortel site, just search for MDP install or just MDP on their bulletins page.

FYI on the refresh command: It will fail if there's a patch conflict; however it doesn't fail till it gets to 99.9% with extracting and verifying and the reason why it failed is not very clear.

John, does mdcs work the same as mdp?
Give a sentence model, pls

This is what happened to me when I used the MDP Install command to load deplist 10 per the instructions. janeenaj is right, there is a PEP listed in the instructions to remove first before using the MDP Install command. It didn't seem to make a difference in my case as I had major problems even though I removed it first. I agree with your theory of "too many patches". However, 170+ is crazy to try and put in one by one. I got the same result on 2 different attempts to load deplist 10. I finally left it at deplist 9.

janeenaj:
Can we say that MDP is not safe to do until we are not sure there will no conflict between patches?

If so, do you know if there is any command to verify if a conflict exist between patches before to load the zip file?

Do you think it may be a good idea to do a MDP UNINSTALL first then MDP INSTALL? The problem i see in that procedure is that additionnal patches not inserted in the initial install command will be outed also...

Make sure you have the correct patches for the cpu, ie x21 cpp4. Post ur iss from ld 22 if you are not sure?

If you have access to espl, paste ur issp info in the

"Baseline" - Meridian ISSP Report and Conflict Checker (MIRCC)

Hope this helps,

Killian

MDP "INSTALL" is great, if you have to put in 50+ patches...run the command, answer a couple of prompts and go get some coffee/tea..etc.
MDP "REFRESH" IMO: sucks the big one. The theory behind it is great, but in practice, have yet to work.

The refresh command has nevered worked for me because all my systems have special patches or PI patches that are not publicly available. These patches conflict with 1 or more of the 100+ patches that are part of the deplist. When using the MDP refresh command, it fails because of the conflict but doesn't tell you which one it conflict with. The only way to find out with one is conflicting is to install each one manually...not going to happen. Running the MIRRC is great if you don't have "special" patches. The MIRRC tool only check against public, release patches.

The down side to the INSTALL command - it poos and pout all patches, so if you have "special" patches, make sure you have a copy of them before you run the MDP INSTALL command so you can put them back in afterward.

As for the INI, I believe there are 2 patches that needs to be removed prior to the MDP commands. The current bulletin only provide 1 patch...an older bulletin, around january timeframe maybe, list another patch...i'm sorry I'm not in the office to provide the patch info

I thought MDP install was just for new install's and the refresh was for systems up and running.

I ran into this also

FYI on the refresh command: It will fail if there's a patch conflict; however it doesn't fail till it gets to 99.9% with extracting and verifying and the reason why it failed is not very clear

It's only dialtone-VZ

Hi

I agree janeenaj. When special patches are installed, it fails for sure. Also for conflicts.

Thanks to all for feedback
