MDBDATA Folder Keeps Filling Up

Hi

I am using Arcserve for exchange and having problems with backing up. This is causing the Mdbdata folder to fill up with edb logs, Do i need to keep these files or is it ok to remove them. I have been moving them in case but now its eating up lots of storage space.

Hi,
It's because you didn't enable circular logging. Enabling circular logging will write up to 5 log files and than bigin over writing automatiocaaly again. It is always a good idea.

Circular Logging is very nice imho. Since we do a complete backup every night we have little need for more.

I would suggest setting your backup client in this case arcserve to flush your log files daily once backed up i.e once the mdbdata folder is backed up the backup client deletes the log files that have already been written to priv.edb. I know this is the case with NTbackup and I'm pretty sure the exchange addon for arcserve has this capability too.

Be careful with circular logging! This has happened to me and I no longer use Circular Logging.

Even if you do a full backup, you may not be able to get a complete restore.
