Hello all having a lot of trouble installing SQL 2000 Standard Edition on Windows NT 4 server/ sp6. I cannot get past the MDAC installation portion of the process. The
mdac attempts to install, lots of hdd activity so I am sure data is being written. After about two minutes of file copying an error messages states "Microsoft Data Access Component failed to install (-1)". I have not found anything in kb or under this newsgroup. Prior to installing I have stopped all services which are using odbc (backup exec, iis, Pervasive SQL engine) and disabled running anti-virus software. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have seen an article about this error. It recommends installing MDAC first and then running the SQL Server installation. MDAC_TYP.EXE should be on the SQL Server installation CD. You can download it from Microsoft's site.

Do you have administrator authority? It's required since these are system-level DLLs.

Hi,

Thanks for the tips.

I tried everything I can. No luck.

We even opened the case with Microsoft Professional Support. They asked me for a few logs, finally, they told me that the same problem was reported by the customers, but they don't have solution right now. They even suggest me to reload OS. It is impossible to reload the whole thing on product server.

I am laughing.

That's the story.
