McShield Utilization 100% at times

We are seeing increased McShield utilization at times. This makes the PC unusable when this is happenning. Has anyone else seen this since deploying VirusScan 8.0i with Patch 10? We didn't have this issue with VirusScan 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Aeaden,

Even I am facing the very same issue of a 100% CPU Usage which cant be pinned down to anything thus far. I have VirusScan 9.1.08.

Can anyone tell if a high/100% CPU Usage can be caused by McAfee VirusScan?

Hi Thunderthor,

One thing that I have been doing to troubleshoot this issue is running filemon.exe while the high utilization is happenning. This has shown me what files are scanning and I have been able to make exceptions based on this data.

Filemon.exe and other useful utilities are available from:

http://www.sysinternals.com

Thanks for the response Aeaden.

I use Process Explorer from sysinternals which is also quite a useful tool. My probelm seems to stem from Outlook and Firefox (or any browser) usage.

Will keep you updated in case of any useful developments on my end.
