MCSHIELD error and slow processing

Please don't groan!!!

I receive the following error when running Framemaker after the PC has slowed down dramatically:
"MCSHIELD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program An Error log is being created".

Virusscan shuts itself down after the error.
On other occasions, if I turn off the McAfee VirusScan software the program runs fine (and at a reasonable speed), with no error. I *do* have the most up to date Scan Engine (4.1.60), Virus Definition 4.0.4202 and the software itelf is 4.5 SP1 (4.50.534). I'm using Windows 2000. I know there's an issue here but I thought it could be solved by uninstalling then installing the latest software. I've done that (twice, just in case!).

No luck. Any tips much appreciated.

hmm installing the latest software Just wondering if you have 4.5SP1 or 4.5.1SP1 which is the latest..

I would try the 4.5.1SP1 if you dont have it already, and if you already have it exclude the program file, or directory from being scanned by virusscan system scan.

Thanks, interesting point. I have 4.5SP1. If I install 4.5.1 I can't use VSC45SP1.exe to update it as it says that it's not elligible (which is fair enough). I'll look for VSC451SP1.exe if such a thing exists (we don't have it).

in here you will find a vsc451lens.zip

this is 4.5.1 with service pack one also

If you use this you will want to uninstall 4.5 then install this. or you might not see the service pack apply, which there is a seperate zip there for just the service pack it is 2.24 mb and is vsc451lens1.zip

I have 2 clients with a problem upgrading from 4.5.0.534 to 4.5.1. Uninstalling the .534 seems ok. But after installing 4.5.1 the AvSyncMgr wont show up (no icon in systray). But scanning seems to be done. The service shows up started too. But no configuration possible (because of no icon). Starting it manually wont work either. How can I wipe 4.5.1 from Disk to CLEAN reinstall it?

Sorry I have no answer to your problem. However, installing Virus definition 4.0.4206 and v4.5.1 of the software solved the speed issue on my pc.

Thats right. Speed seems no problem any longer. There is a spot at the end of the deep dark tunnel...
