I was really shaking in my boots going in for this one as everyone was making it out as being very very hard.

At first the exam did seem very hard, 20% through the exam I was certain I was going to fail as all the questions were on SUS something that I hadnt studied in enough detail. Also long complex questions that had me demoralised. After that I started to get into it and was pretty sure on all the questions I was answering. When I reviewed I went back over the questions I wasnt sure on and took my time to get rid of the ovious red herrings and take my best shot.

Anyway I was in the room for about 2 and a half hours and I just hit the end exam button. Was gobsmacked at my score of 840 :) I got 100% on IP addressing and Name Resolution. Not far behind for RRAS and Network Infrastructure.

The only thing that annoys me is I hardly got any subnetting questions and really did make sure I knew the calculations before I went in. Never needed to calculate a single one so didnt need the windows calc.

Sorry for my excited hand and any spelling mistakes etc.

I am still rather excited.

The winner of this bout, undefeated in over 8 consecutive certification examinations, the new Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator... The Bullllllyyyyyyyyyyyy :)

And they say 293 is easier than 291 bring it on :)

congrats, i'm impressed bully, just started my 70-290, but so scared about 70-291, i don't want to pass 290!! which other exam did u pass to get the mcsa..guessing 70-270,70-290,270-291 and??

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

thebully,

Congrats!

70-293 is "easier" than 70-291 in the sense that it's 75% rehashed material. Or at least it was when I took it about 18 months ago.

What did you use for your elective? Hopefully it's something that can also be applied as an elective for your MCSE.

I used either A+ and Network+, A+ and Server+ or Security+ for my ellective. :)

They are all ticked on my certification planner.

The Certification Planner also shows that I only need 4 more exams for MCSE Security 70-293, 70-294, 70-298 and 70-299.

Security+ is a good cert to have when going for MCSE :)

Read the planner again. You need 298 or 299, not both (unless you are using one of them for your MCSE elective and the other for the security requirment).

Thats what I thought but when I look at the planner it says.

Security Specialisation *ALL

Under that there is 298 in a sub folder and 299 is outside the folder (or vice versa) which I would think means I need both exams?

thebully,

Since you're going for MCSE Security, you're correct about what you need to complete to achieve it. I'm working on MCSE Security myself.

Assuming that you've completed 70-270 (or 70-210), 70-290, 70-291 and Security+ as your elective, you're done with your vanilla MCSA. 70-299 on top of this will get you MCSA Security.

For MCSE Security, you'll need the above plus 70-293, 70-294, and 70-298.
