Anybody use the MCK Extenders for Norstar? How do they work? Do you need a MCK on each end? Is it true that you must have a fiber between locations, or can you use a good DSL connection?

Thanks!

You can't use the mck module extenders with a CICS (no modules on the CICS) that is the MCK extender that uses fiber.

What are you trying to do with an extender? extend x number of phones X distance from the M/Cics?

I have a few sites that use the MCK 6000 series. They connect via DS1. They are expensive ~$1800 new; $1000-1400 used and you need one on each side. Some older models used 56k circuits, but probably hard to find now. Basically, they mux/demux Norstar data over DS1. MCK was bought out by CITEL....look them up on the web and give them a call about a unit that uses DSL. Post results. The 6000 series will work on a CICS as well as an MICS as they connect directly to station ports off of either KSU.

To clarify- MCK FIBER extenders are where you'll need fiber. As jerry said, they're used to extend a module off a MICS over multimode fiber. One set comes with a Local unit that plugs into the KSU, and a Remote unit to plug into the module.
They'll accept up to -12dB loss. That's HUGE, but with any fiber, it should be tested at the time of the install.

The only downside is they're really sensitive to dirty power. Make sure you put them on a ups.

My supplier indicates that the MCK 6000 IP will use a DSL connection...I am going to call Citel just to be sure!

I have set up MCK 6000 gateway and remote over DSL connections located at each site. Worked as well as the DSL connection which in my case was trouble free.

It ran about 5 phones at a site 300 miles away.

I used dedicated DSL circuits and had to upgrade from the ISP supplied westell modem/router combo as it would not support VoIP.
