After downloading a critical update from Microsoft for my windows 98, my McAfee Clinic Virus Scan quit working. When I rebooted, I got a message saying that some of the components for McAfee were missing.

When I try to re-download McAfee Clinic, the download gets about 57% finished, then I get an Internet Explorer Script error that says Error Object Required: gobjReg.

I've tried reinstalling IE 6, clearing cookies, temperory internet files, but still get the same error message.

Can anyone help? McAfee is no help, even on the pay per incident plan.....

Thanks,

Al

Try the following steps!

* Cleanup Temporary Internet Files

* Unregister Dlls
1. Click Start, Run.
2. Enter the following:
REGSVR32 /U MCINSCTL.DLL
3. Click OK. The resulting message should say 'DllUnregisterServer in mcinstctl.dll succeeded'.
4. Click Start, Run.
5. Enter the following:
Type REGSVR32 /U MCGDMGR.DLL
6. Click OK.
7. The resulting message should say 'DllUnregisterServer in mcgdmgr.dll succeeded'.

* Delete dll Files
1. Start > Search (Find) > Files or Folders.
2. Search for MCINSCTL.DLL and MCGDMGR.DLL and delete them.
They should be found in the following directories:
Windows 2000 and XP upgraded from 2000 users: C:\winnt\system32
Windows 98/ME/XP users: C:\windows\system32

* Delete all McAfee files/folders
1. From the taskbar, click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type Explorer and click OK.
4. Double-click My Computer.
5. Double-click C: drive.
6. Delete the MC?????.tmp folder(s), if present.
Note: ? = these could be numbers or letters.
7. From the C: drive, double-click Program Files.
8. Double-click McAfee.
9. Delete the VSO and Shared folders, if present.
10. Close the Windows Explorer window.
11. Click the Start button.
12. Click Run.
13. Type %windir% and click OK.
14. Find and delete the MCBIN folder (if exists).

* Remove ActiveX components
1. Double Click My Computer
2. Double Click the C drive icon
3. Double Click the Windows folder (Note: This folder name may be WINNT for users with Windows 2000 or XP upgraded from 2000)
4. Double Click the Downloaded Program Files folder
5. Delete any McAfee ActiveX components (examples: McAfee.com Operating system class, McAfee Installer Class, McAfee TYP class, McAfee Tree class.)

Note: Browse the folder and if you see a component that you are unsure of what program it belongs to like long random names with numbers and letters, double click on it and look under the code base. If its from Download.McAfee.com, then delete it.

At this point, connect to McAfee.com and re-download VirusScan.
