McAfee & HP printer causing Word to freeze.

I have a problem with Word 97. When you access page setup it takes about 2 - 3 minutes for the window to come up. Computer is running NT4 on a network. Printer is an HP Deskjet 895cxi connected locally. I went to HP's site and came across this message from another user with the same type of problem. "After much investigation and talking to HP and Network Associates it appears there is a compatability problem between the 895 series printers and the 4.5 virus scan engine (even with service pack 1)."

I disabled the virus scan on the computer, and the page setup window opened right away. So, it would seem that this is the problem.

Any idea how to fix this issue without going back to scan engine 4.03?
Any suggestions welcome!

Try excluding the following and see if you get better.

c:\windows\spool\
c:\windows\spoolss.dll
c:\windows\spool32.exe
c:\windows\system\hp*.dll

Seems to work in the lab.
