Has anyone else seen this, McAfee has been of no help. We are upgrading from 4.03 to 4.51 and after the uninstall of 4.03 on NT 4 boxes running sp6a we get a BSOD Stop message just after the system boots into GUI mode. Stop 0xC000021A is the message (Fatal System Error) - no kidding.

This is happening randomly on approximately 1 out of 20 machines. No similarities have been found yet to determine what the cause may be. The only resolution we have been able to apply is reimaging the machine.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Mike

There's a silent uninstall utility (named by McAfee) that does a complete uninstall of all entries of older versions of VSCAN.
I got this from McAfee's tech support.

We ran this when we experienced simular problems with our systems. After completion of the uninstall reboot, and re-run the 4.5.1 install.
Hope this help, it did for us.

We have about 2000 machines in our area, of various hardware configurations, software loads, etc. we get this exact same problem with each update for mcafee, we can't get this problem to stop. I am going to try the above solution to see if it works for us. Just to let you know that you are not alone.

We too have the same problem but have isolated it to be microsoft related as certain processes are running when the unistall kicks off that it just does not like, causing the BSOD, I've made an SMS script to kill those processes before starting the automated uninstall script which can be found at this address

This seems to help in trial runs, I'll find out soon on the large scale how it goes, I'd also suggest backing up the shlwapi.dll file during the uninstall as mcafee loves blowing it away if a part of IE or Office 2000/xp is running in the background.
